Thoughts on the Game

Positives

1. Zambrano battled through 6 innings holding the Pirates to 3 runs and keeping the Cubs in the game
2. The Cubs hitters never gave up and finally were able to break through for 5 runs in the 8^th inning
3. Carlos Marmol was electric striking out the side in the 9^th.

Negatives

1. Zambrano threw a 99 pitches in 6+ innings. He needs to be more economical with his pitches or the high pitch counts will catch up with him and the Cubs bullpen at some point.
2. The Cubs hitters were shut down for the first 7 innings at home by a mediocre pitcher. The Cubs are going to have to score runs off of lower tier pitchers if they expect to be competitive in 2011.
