Thoughts about the game

Positives

1. Cain pitched well but did not have his best stuff going 6 shutout innings on 86 pitches. Cain’s ability to shut teams down even when he does not have his A-1 stuff is impressive.
2. The bats finally awoke pounding Dodger pitching for 10 runs on only 13 hits only 1 of which was a homer.
3. Mark DeRosa getting his first start in nearly a year got on the board for 2 hits and 2 runs. One of DeRosa’s hits was a nice hustle double.
4. The defense bounced back playing error free baseball for the first time this season.

Negatives

Hard to find too many negatives in a 10-0 win but there is always room for improvement

1. Pat Burrell struck out three times. His bat has looked slow since the 2010 Postseason. He is a defensive liability in the field and his bat seems to be getting slower by the day. His days as an everyday will probably be over when Cody Ross comes back from the disabled list.
2. If I am being nitpicky I would like to see Cain get though 6 innings with less than 86 pitches. But definitely cannot find fault with Cain’s effort today.
3. Once again being nitpicky. Lopez had an 18 pitch inning. Granted the Giants had a big lead and there was no pressure. I am sure Lopez will be good to go when his left-handed specialist duties are needed.
