Nationals Interested in Carl Pavano?

December 20, 2010

Bill Ladson of MLB.com is reporting representatives for Pavano had discussions with the Nationals on Sunday.

Pavano is arguably the most sought after free agent starting pitcher still available.

He is rumored to be asking for a deal in the 3 year 30 million dollar range.

He is coming off back to back effective seasons. He helped the Twins win the American League Central Division with 17 wins and a 3.75 ERA last season.

His past history of injuries definitely adds an element of risk to the team he ultimately signs with.

Angels Interested in Scott Podsednik?

December 20, 2010
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting the Angels are interested in signing Scott Podsednik. Podsednik did not perform to the level the Dodgers had hoped after a trade deadline deal in 2010.

Podsednik has always had the knock of being strictly a base stealer. He will be 35 when the 2011 season starts and you have to wonder how much he can really provide other than stealing 30 bases?

Strasburg Says Elbow Getting Stronger

December 20, 2010
William Ladson from MLB.com reported on Twitter that Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg said his elbow is getting stronger. Strasburg plans to visit Dr. Lewis Yocum after the holidays for a checkup. The hope is Dr. Yocum will be able to give Strasburg an idea about when he may be able to resume baseball related activities.

Strasburg is still expected to miss the entire 2011 season.

You can be sure the Nationals are going to be very careful with Strasburg. The hope is he will be able to resume his career in 2012.

December 20, 2010

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting the Royals have received calls regarding the availability of Joakim Soria. The Royals are reportedly not interested in moving Soria.

They hold club options through 2014. Soria has quickly developed into one of the best closers in the game. If the Royals were to make him available you have to think there would be a dozen teams interested.

Jen Royle of MASN had reported last Friday that the Orioles had offered Adam LaRoche a deal in the area of 3 years 18 million.

This morning she is reporting that the Orioles are upping the offer to around 3 years 21 million. This would still seem to be a bargain in the current economic landscape of baseball.

Giants Sign Guillermo Mota to Minor League Deal

December 19, 2010

Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes is reporting the Giants have signed Guilermo Mota to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training.

Mota had a decent year in 2010 for the Giants posting a 4.33 ERA and 1.315 WHIP in 56 appearances. If he makes the team his role would probably be limited to an innings eating middle reliever.

The Rays also had reportedly expressed interest in Mota.
