Bryce Harper Reportedly Moving to Centerfield

February 12, 2011

According to Bill Ladson of Washington Nationals phenom Bryce Harper is expected to play center field the bulk of the time in the minors.

With Jayson Werth signed to a long-term deal and slated to start in right field this is not a major surprise.

Harper primarily played catcher before being drafted.  It is widely speculated that his switch from catcher to outfielder will get him to the majors faster.

Harper is the most hyped minor league position player since Alex Rodriguez. It will be very interesting to see how he performs in his first full season in professional baseball.

Josh Hamilton Signs Two-Year Deal with Rangers, Avoids Arbitration

I think this is a very good move for the Rangers locking up Hamilton for the next 2-years for a very reasonable $12 million per season.

I was wrong on this one. I really thought Weaver had posted numbers that would convince the arbiter his $8.8 million request was justified.

Cubs and Nationals Out on Brandon Webb.

December 26, 2010

Jayson Stark of is reporting the Cubs and Nationals are out on the Brandon Webb sweepstakes. Both had been rumored along with the Rangers in the past couple of weeks.

That leaves the Rangers and a N.L. Central Mystery team. With the Cubs out and the Brewers almost certainly out after the acquisition of Zack Greinke the list of N.L. Central remaining is the Cardinals, Reds, Pirates and Astros. It would be hard to imagine the Pirates or Astros going after Webb as they are in rebuilding mode.

That would leave the Reds or Cardinals. The Reds would seem more likely as the Cardinals are have avery good rotation with Carpenter, Wainright, Garcia, Westbrook and Lohse.

Carl Pavano to Decide on Team Soon?

December 25, 2010

Bill Ladson of reports that the Nationals are still in the running to sign Carl Pavano.

He anticipates Pavano signing with a team shortly after the holiday season.

Pavano has been linked to the Nationals and Twins. He had been linked with the Brewers before they acquired Zack Greinke.

Pavano is coming off a successful season in 2010 with 17 wins and a 3.75 ERA for the American League Central winning Twins.

Pavano is rumored to looking for a deal in the 3 year $30 million range.
