Cubs and Nationals Out on Brandon Webb.

December 26, 2010

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com is reporting the Cubs and Nationals are out on the Brandon Webb sweepstakes. Both had been rumored along with the Rangers in the past couple of weeks.

That leaves the Rangers and a N.L. Central Mystery team. With the Cubs out and the Brewers almost certainly out after the acquisition of Zack Greinke the list of N.L. Central remaining is the Cardinals, Reds, Pirates and Astros. It would be hard to imagine the Pirates or Astros going after Webb as they are in rebuilding mode.

That would leave the Reds or Cardinals. The Reds would seem more likely as the Cardinals are have avery good rotation with Carpenter, Wainright, Garcia, Westbrook and Lohse.

Rangers Interested in Arthur Rhodes?

December 23, 2010

Jon Heyman from SI.com is reporting the Rangers are interested in signing Arthur Rhodes. The 41 year old Rhodes was very effective in a setup role for the Reds in 2010 earning his for All Star selection.

It is surprising that the left-handed Rhodes has not received more attention this off season. Quality left-handed relief pitching is always in demand.

Reds Interested in Scott Podsednik?

December 22, 2010

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting the Reds may be interested in signing Scott Podsednik.

The Angels have also reportedly expressed interest in signing Podsednik.

Reds Sign Jay Bruce to 6 year 51 million extension

December 9, 2010

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN is reporting the Jay Bruce will sign a 6 year 51 million extension with the Reds. The extension includes an option for a 7th year which would bring the total value of the deal to 63 million. This allows the Reds to avoid salary arbitration with Bruce in February. At just 23 Bruce seems poised to improve for the foreseeable future.  This has the looks of a good deal for both Bruce and the Reds. Now the Reds will likely turn their attention to signing Joey Votto to a long-term extension.

Reds Discussing Extensions with Joey Votto and Jay Bruce

December 3, 2010

John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting the Reds are having preliminary discussions about signing Joey Votto and Jay Bruce to long term extensions. This is a smart move on their part but the recent signing of Troy Tulowitzki to an extension at almost 20 million per season has to concern the Reds.
