Blue Jays Sign Corey Patterson

December 21, 2010
Multiple sources are reporting Corey Patterson has signed with the Blue Jays. Terms of the deal have not been announced.

Patterson spent the 2010 season in Baltimore stealing 21 bases but logging a .315 OBP in 340 plate appearances. He has not been a full time player since the 2007 season.

If he earns significant playing time he could steal 25-30 bases.

Patterson has never lived up to the 5 tool hype he had when he came up with the Cubs in 2000. It is amazing that he has stuck around the league so long with a career .292 OBP.

Orioles Offer to Adam LaRoche Reported to be 3 Years 21 Million

December 20, 2010
Jen Royle of MASN had reported last Friday that the Orioles had offered Adam LaRoche a deal in the area of 3 years 18 million.

This morning she is reporting that the Orioles are upping the offer to around 3 years 21 million. This would still seem to be a bargain in the current economic landscape of baseball.

Orioles Offer Adam LaRoche 3 Years 16+ Million

December 18, 2010

Jen Royle of MASN is reporting the Orioles have offered Adam LaRoche a 3 year deal in the 16-18 million range. This would be a bargain if LaRoche can come near the 25 HR 100 RBI season he posted for the Diamondbacks in 2010.

Orioles Interested in Freddy Garcia?

December 18, 2010

Jen Royle at MASN is reporting the Orioles are interested in Freddy Garcia.

He was 12-6 for the White Sox last season. But he had 4.64 ERA and a 1.376 WHIP. But most alarmingly was the 23 homers he allowed in only 157 innings. Garcia will turn 36 during the 2011 season and with his last effective season in 2006 you have to wonder how much he has left in the tank?

Nationals and Orioles Looking at LaRoche and Lee?

December 16, 2010
Ken Rosenthal is reporting the Nationals and Orioles are both looking at Adam LaRoche and Derek Lee.

It has been widely reported Lee would be willing to accept a one year deal as he tries to bounce back from thumb problems he suffered in 2010

LaRoche has been a consistent 25 HR 85 RBI guy the past 5 years for mostly bad teams. He declined arbitration from the Diamondbacks and is likely to want a longer deal for more money.
