Multiple reports say Brian Cashman says Jorge Posada will be the Yankees primary DH in 2011. This further fuels speculation that Yankees are on the Verge of signing Russell Martin. With Jesus Montero waiting in the wings the Yankees catching situation could be very interesting in 2011.

Buster Olney of ESPN is reporting the Yankees may sign Martin to a deal. It seems unbelievable that Martin was poised to be a cornerstone of the Dodgers for years and now he appears to be gone. Reports also state the Red Sox and Blue Jays have serious interest in Martin.

Third Mystery Team in Running for Cliff Lee?

The Cliff Lee saga continues as Jon Heyman is reporting that multiple sources are saying a third mystery team is in the running for Cliff Lee. Heyman says the team is not the Phillies. Earlier reports also say Lee has eliminated the Nationals from consideration. If Heyman did not have multiple sources I would say this is an agent ploy. This should be interesting the next few days.

Nationals Officially Out of Cliff Lee Sweepstakes

MLB.com is reporting that Cliff Lee has officially eliminated the Nationals from his list of teams. This is no surprise as the Rangers and Yankees have been considered to be the prohibitive favorites since the beginning. The Yankees have said their offer is firm and will not be sweetened. Wide spread speculation is that Lee will sign sometime this week. Stay tuned. 

Did Red Sox Offer Cliff Lee a 7 Year Deal?

Anthony Mccarron and Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News are reporting the Red Sox offered Cliff Lee a 7 year deal last Tuesday.  As the story goes the Red Sox made a low ball offer to prolong the Cliff Lee Sweepstakes with the Rangers and Yankees. Cliff Lee Saga Continues

Anthony Andro and Jeff Wilson of The Forth Worth Star Telegram report representatives from the Rangers made a third trip to Cliff’s Lee’s home in Arkansas on Thursday. They gave a 90 minute presentation to Cliff and his wife on the virtues of signing a long-term deal with the Rangers.

The Rangers have to feel the Yankees are extremely motivated to secure the services of Lee after seeing Carl Crawford sign a 7 year 142 million dollar deal with the arch rival Red Sox.

Yankees to Sign Mariano Rivera to 2 Year 30 Million Dollar Deal

The New York Daily News is reporting that Mariano Rivera will sign a 2 year 30 million dollar deal on Friday to return to the Yankees. Rivera is unquestionably the best closer of the past 15 years and even at 40 years of age last season he showed little signs of slowing down. The Daily News reports he turned down a 3 year 51 million dollar offer from another unnamed team.
