Multiple sources are reporting Corey Patterson has signed with the Blue Jays. Terms of the deal have not been announced.
Patterson spent the 2010 season in Baltimore stealing 21 bases but logging a .315 OBP in 340 plate appearances. He has not been a full time player since the 2007 season. If he earns significant playing time he could steal 25-30 bases. Patterson has never lived up to the 5 tool hype he had when he came up with the Cubs in 2000. It is amazing that he has stuck around the league so long with a career .292 OBP. |
Jerry Crasnick is reporting the Blue Jays have singed Edwin Encarnacion to a one year 2.5 million deal. He said the Rays had also expressed interest in Encarnacion. He had 21 HRs and 51 RBI in only 333 ABs last season for the Blue Jays. |
Buster Olney of ESPN is reporting the Yankees may sign Martin to a deal. It seems unbelievable that Martin was poised to be a cornerstone of the Dodgers for years and now he appears to be gone. Reports also state the Red Sox and Blue Jays have serious interest in Martin. |
Bob Dutton at the The Kansas City Star reports the Royals are not shopping Zach Greinke but will entertain offers. Rumor is several several teams have expressed interest including the Blue jays, Nationals and Rangers. Supposedly the starting price will be two top of the line prospects. This story will probably grab more headlines once Cliff Lee signs. Rumor is the Royals and Blue Jays were close to a deal at the winter meetings but the refusal of the Blue Jays to include Kyle Drabek ended talks. Stay tuned.
Numerous sources are reporting the Angels have signed Scott Downs to a 3 year 15 million deal. Downs has been one of the better setup men in the American League the past 5 years. The only real concern is Downs will be 35 when the 2011 season starts.
