Zack Greinke Reportedly Traded to Brewers

Multiple sources are reporting a trade involving Zack Greinke will be completed today. Greinke fired his agent on Friday and his new agent informed the Royals of his demand to be traded.

The Brewers will reportedly send Lorenzo Cain, Alcides Escobar, Jake Odorizzi and Jeremy Jeffress to the Royals for Greinke and Yuniesky Betancourt. The Royals will also reportedly send 2 million dollars to the Brewers.

The Nationals were also interested in acquiring Greinke.

Reports are conflicting but Greinke reportedly said he would not go to the Nationals. Also the Nationals were reportedly not willing to part with Jordan Zimmerman, Drew Storen and Danny Espinoza.

Orioles Offer Adam LaRoche 3 Years 16+ Million

Jen Royle of MASN is reporting the Orioles have offered Adam LaRoche a 3 year deal in the 16-18 million range. This would be a bargain if LaRoche can come near the 25 HR 100 RBI season he posted for the Diamondbacks in 2010.

Dan Wheeler Signs with Red Sox

The Boston Globe is reporting the Red Sox have signed Dan Wheeler to a 1 year deal for three million. The  deal has a vesting option for 2012 if Wheeler makes 65 appearances and He will earn an additional 250,000 if he reaches 75 appearances. With the additional of Wheeler and Booby Jenks he Boston looks to be much improved going into 2011.

 

Orioles Interested in Freddy Garcia?

Jen Royle at MASN is reporting the Orioles are interested in Freddy Garcia.

He was 12-6 for the White Sox last season. But he had 4.64 ERA and a 1.376 WHIP. But most alarmingly was the 23 homers he allowed in only 157 innings. Garcia will turn 36 during the 2011 season and with his last effective season in 2006 you have to wonder how much he has left in the tank?

 

Angels Make “Significant Offer” to Adrian Beltre

Several media outlets are reporting the Angels have made a significant offer to Adrian Beltre. As reported in the Los Angeles Times, when asked about Carl Crawford, Angels Owner Arte Moreno mentioned a significant offer to Beltre. Beltre reportedly recently spurned at 5 year 64 million dollar offer from the Athletics. Rumor is Beltre is looking for a deal in the neighborhood of 5 years 75 million. 

Angles Never Made “Official” Offer to Carl Crawford

Mike DiGivoanna of the Los Angeles Times has a story about Angels owner Arte Moreno discussing Carl Crawford. Moreno said he never made an “official” offer to Crawford. But said he was willing to make a significant offer to Crawford but was not willing to match the 7 year 142 million offer made by the Red Sox. 

Moreno reiterated his commitment to fielding a winning team while maintaining reasonable ticket prices.

Giants & Cubs Discussing Rowand for Fukudome Trade?

Jerry Crasnick is reporting the Cubs and Giants have had discussions about a trade involving Aaron Rowand for Kosuke Fukudome. 

Rowand has 2 years remaining on the 5 year 60 million deal he signed before the 2008 season. And Fukudome has 2 years remaining on a 4 year 48 million deal he signed before the 2008 season. Both players are in situation where a change of scenery may do them good.

Orlando Hudson to Sign with Padres

MLB Network Radio is reporting Orland Hudson will sign with the Padres.An announcement could come later today. Ken Rosenthal is reporting the deal to be for two years 11.5 million pending physical. 

Mets Looking to Acquire Tom Gorzelanny?

Mark J Miller of Yahoo Sports is reporting the Mets have shown interest in acquiring Tom Gorzelanny from the Cubs. Gorzelanny made only 800k last year but is arbitration eligible this off season. He posted a respectable 4.09 ERA last season for an underachieving Cubs team. But his 1.496 WHIP has to be a concern for people considering him in their fantasy leagues in 2011.

Brandon Webb Nearing Decision?

Ed Price at FanHouse is reporting Brandon Webb is nearing a decision about his 2011 plans. Multiple teams are reportedly still in the running including the Cubs, Ranges and Nationals. He has not pitched in the Major’s for almost two years. So put him in the Ben Sheets and Mark Prior category of wait and see for any potential production in 2011.
