Bobby Jenks Looking for Closer Money?

December 16, 2010
Jon Heyman is reporting Bobby Jenks is looking for a closer type deal in the area of 8 million per season. Jenks slide in ERA and WHIP the last two years have to concern potential suitors.

Mariners Say No Thanks to Yankees on Felix Hernandez

December 16, 2010
Jon Heyman is reporting the Yankees called the Mariners asking about the availability of Felix Hernandez but were told Felix is not available. The Yankees are obviously desperate for a top of the line starting pitcher after having Cliff Lee sign with the Phillies. One has to wonder what type of package the Yankees would have been willing to offer for King Felix? You would have to think Jesus Montero would be in any offer.

Blue Jays Sign Edwin Encarnacion to 1 Year 2.5 Million Deal

December 16, 2010
Jerry Crasnick is reporting the Blue Jays have singed Edwin Encarnacion to a one year 2.5 million deal. He said the Rays had also expressed interest in Encarnacion. He had 21 HRs and 51 RBI in only 333 ABs last season for the Blue Jays.

Nationals and Orioles Looking at LaRoche and Lee?

December 16, 2010
Ken Rosenthal is reporting the Nationals and Orioles are both looking at Adam LaRoche and Derek Lee.

It has been widely reported Lee would be willing to accept a one year deal as he tries to bounce back from thumb problems he suffered in 2010

LaRoche has been a consistent 25 HR 85 RBI guy the past 5 years for mostly bad teams. He declined arbitration from the Diamondbacks and is likely to want a longer deal for more money.

Jesse Crain Deal to be 3 Years 13 million

December 15, 2010

As reported earlier in the evening Jesse Crain will sign a 3 year 13 million dollar deal with the White Sox. With Bobby Jenks seemingly out of the mix Crain may have the opportunity to battle Sergio Santos for the closers job in 2011. With the Sox spending big this off season Crain is likely to move up the boards in fantasy leagues based on his potential to win the closer job.

Kerry Wood to the Cubs?

December 15, 2010

Multiple sources are reporting a Kerry Wood to Cubs deal appears likely. This is a surprising development considering Wood was linked to the White Sox earlier this evening. The signing of Jesse Crain by the White Sox probably ended their interest in Wood. Wood is rumored to be asking for a two year 12 million deal. This would definitely be a pay cut from his 10 million salary from the past two seasons.

RIP Bob Feller 1918-2010

December 15, 2010

Multiple media outlets are reporting that Hall of Famer Bob Feller has died this evening in Cleveland.

Feller won 266 games in his career for the Indians despite losing four prime years serving in the United States Navy. He was the only pitcher to throw a no-hitter on opening day.

Feller was the first Major Leaguer to enlist in the military following the attack at Pearl Harbor enlisting the next day. Feller served in The United States Navy as a Gun Captain aboard the USS Alabama. Feller earned five campaign ribbons and eight battle stars for his military service.

Feller was one of the most outspoken critics of Pete Rose and staunchly opposed ever enshrining Rose in The Hall of Fame.

Bobby Jenks Suddenly Hot Commodity.

December 15, 2010

It was reported earlier this evening that Jenks was set to sign with the Rays. However Mark Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times says that is not the case. A deal with the Rays is not close.

Ken Rosenthal says both the Yankees and Rays have interest in Jenks but a deal is not close with either team. Jenks slide in effectiveness the past three years has to be a huge red flag for any potential Suitors. His ERA has ballooned from 2.63 in 2008 to 4.44 in 2010. And his WHIP 1.103 to 1.367.

Are The White Sox Targeting Kerry Wood?

December 15, 2010

The Chicago Tribune is reporting the White Sox have offered the former Cub a two year deal. With the signing of Jessie Crain earlier this evening you have to wonder if the offer to Wood will remain on the table?

Will Cubs Look to Deal Carlos Zambrano?

December 15, 2010

Carlos Zambrano’s trials and tribulations have been well documented since he signed a 5 year 91.5 million dollar deal in August of 2007. Although Carlos has not put terrible numbers during the current contract he certainly has not put up numbers expected of a 18 million per season pitcher.

Another big concern is the emotional outbursts Zambrano has had on multiple occasions. The latest being on June 25th 2010 leading the Cubs to suspend him indefinitely. After completing anger management Zambrano worked his way back into the starting rotation for the last two months of the 2010 season.

During those two months Zambrano went 8-0 in 11 starts not allowing more than two runs in any of the 11 starts. That is outstanding production by any standard.

So Zambrano’s late season production definitely begs the question of is there a team out there willing to take Zambrano off the Cubs hands? Like maybe the deep pocketed Yankees as a consolation prize after losing out on Cliff Lee. Zambrano only has two years left on the current deal so for a normal team 2 years for 36 million seems insane. But as we have seen in the past no dollar amount is obscene for the Yankees if they decide they want a player. Plus Sergio Mitre does not exactly have the Red Sox quaking in their hitting shoes.
