Brandon Webb Not Expected to Make Decision Today

December 21, 2010
John Morosi of Fox Sports is reporting that Brandon Webb will not make a decision today about signing for 2011.

Webb has been linked to several teams including the Rangers, Cubs and Nationals.

T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com quickly shot down reports Webb is in Texas meeting with the Rangers.

The Rangers are still reportedly interested in signing Webb.

The Nationals and Cubs are still reportedly showing interest in signing Webb.

Stay tuned for further updates in the Brandon Webb saga.

Mets Looking to Acquire Tom Gorzelanny?

December 17, 2010
Mark J Miller of Yahoo Sports is reporting the Mets have shown interest in acquiring Tom Gorzelanny from the Cubs. Gorzelanny made only 800k last year but is arbitration eligible this off season. He posted a respectable 4.09 ERA last season for an underachieving Cubs team. But his 1.496 WHIP has to be a concern for people considering him in their fantasy leagues in 2011.

Kerry Wood Reportedly will Reportedly Sign with Cubs for 1 Year 1.5 Million

December 16, 2010
Multiple sources are reporting Kerry Wood has agreed to a 1 year 1.5 million deal with the Cubs.

Reports say the Yankees offered more so this appears to be Kerry giving the Cubs a hometown discount.

So much for speculation of the Yankees trying to reunite the Cubs 2003 starting rotation by signing Mark Prior and going after Carlos Zambrano and Wood.

Kerry Wood to the Cubs?

December 15, 2010

Multiple sources are reporting a Kerry Wood to Cubs deal appears likely. This is a surprising development considering Wood was linked to the White Sox earlier this evening. The signing of Jesse Crain by the White Sox probably ended their interest in Wood. Wood is rumored to be asking for a two year 12 million deal. This would definitely be a pay cut from his 10 million salary from the past two seasons.

Are The White Sox Targeting Kerry Wood?

December 15, 2010

The Chicago Tribune is reporting the White Sox have offered the former Cub a two year deal. With the signing of Jessie Crain earlier this evening you have to wonder if the offer to Wood will remain on the table?

Will Cubs Look to Deal Carlos Zambrano?

December 15, 2010

Carlos Zambrano’s trials and tribulations have been well documented since he signed a 5 year 91.5 million dollar deal in August of 2007. Although Carlos has not put terrible numbers during the current contract he certainly has not put up numbers expected of a 18 million per season pitcher.

Another big concern is the emotional outbursts Zambrano has had on multiple occasions. The latest being on June 25th 2010 leading the Cubs to suspend him indefinitely. After completing anger management Zambrano worked his way back into the starting rotation for the last two months of the 2010 season.

During those two months Zambrano went 8-0 in 11 starts not allowing more than two runs in any of the 11 starts. That is outstanding production by any standard.

So Zambrano’s late season production definitely begs the question of is there a team out there willing to take Zambrano off the Cubs hands? Like maybe the deep pocketed Yankees as a consolation prize after losing out on Cliff Lee. Zambrano only has two years left on the current deal so for a normal team 2 years for 36 million seems insane. But as we have seen in the past no dollar amount is obscene for the Yankees if they decide they want a player. Plus Sergio Mitre does not exactly have the Red Sox quaking in their hitting shoes.

Yankees Sign Mark Prior to 1 Year Minor League Deal

December 14, 2010

The Yankees have signed Mark Prior to a 1 year incentive laden deal. If he makes the Major League roster he will make $750,000 with a chance to earn up to $1,500.000. I don’t think this is exactly the consolation prize the Yankees were looking for after losing out on Cliff Lee.

Prior looked to be the type of pitcher that would earn a Cliff Lee type deal someday. But now he is relegated to taking any offer he can get as he makes another attempt to salvage any semblance of a Major League Career.

Prior last pitched in the Major’s for the Cubs in 2006.
