| Jon Heyman is reporting the Yankees are denying interest in trading for Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano. Several reports have said the Yankees expressed in Zambrano after losing out on Cliff Lee.
You have to wonder if this is the end of the Zambrano to Yankees rumors? |

Yankees Deny Interest in Carlos Zambrano
December 16, 2010Mariners Say No Thanks to Yankees on Felix Hernandez
December 16, 2010| Jon Heyman is reporting the Yankees called the Mariners asking about the availability of Felix Hernandez but were told Felix is not available. The Yankees are obviously desperate for a top of the line starting pitcher after having Cliff Lee sign with the Phillies. One has to wonder what type of package the Yankees would have been willing to offer for King Felix? You would have to think Jesus Montero would be in any offer. |
Kerry Wood to the Cubs?
December 15, 2010Multiple sources are reporting a Kerry Wood to Cubs deal appears likely. This is a surprising development considering Wood was linked to the White Sox earlier this evening. The signing of Jesse Crain by the White Sox probably ended their interest in Wood. Wood is rumored to be asking for a two year 12 million deal. This would definitely be a pay cut from his 10 million salary from the past two seasons.
Bobby Jenks Suddenly Hot Commodity.
December 15, 2010It was reported earlier this evening that Jenks was set to sign with the Rays. However Mark Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times says that is not the case. A deal with the Rays is not close.
Ken Rosenthal says both the Yankees and Rays have interest in Jenks but a deal is not close with either team. Jenks slide in effectiveness the past three years has to be a huge red flag for any potential Suitors. His ERA has ballooned from 2.63 in 2008 to 4.44 in 2010. And his WHIP 1.103 to 1.367.
Are The White Sox Targeting Kerry Wood?
December 15, 2010The Chicago Tribune is reporting the White Sox have offered the former Cub a two year deal. With the signing of Jessie Crain earlier this evening you have to wonder if the offer to Wood will remain on the table?
Will Cubs Look to Deal Carlos Zambrano?
December 15, 2010Carlos Zambrano’s trials and tribulations have been well documented since he signed a 5 year 91.5 million dollar deal in August of 2007. Although Carlos has not put terrible numbers during the current contract he certainly has not put up numbers expected of a 18 million per season pitcher.
Another big concern is the emotional outbursts Zambrano has had on multiple occasions. The latest being on June 25th 2010 leading the Cubs to suspend him indefinitely. After completing anger management Zambrano worked his way back into the starting rotation for the last two months of the 2010 season.
During those two months Zambrano went 8-0 in 11 starts not allowing more than two runs in any of the 11 starts. That is outstanding production by any standard.
So Zambrano’s late season production definitely begs the question of is there a team out there willing to take Zambrano off the Cubs hands? Like maybe the deep pocketed Yankees as a consolation prize after losing out on Cliff Lee. Zambrano only has two years left on the current deal so for a normal team 2 years for 36 million seems insane. But as we have seen in the past no dollar amount is obscene for the Yankees if they decide they want a player. Plus Sergio Mitre does not exactly have the Red Sox quaking in their hitting shoes.
Is Andy Pettitte Coming Back in 2011?
December 15, 2010Jon Heyman is reporting Pettitte is upset about the Yankees underpaying him in 2010 and he will not play for a low salary in 2011. But Heyman says Pettitte’s family supports him coming back for another season. The Yankees are obviously not excited about the prospect of starting the year with Sergio Mitre in their rotation.
Yankees Sign Mark Prior to 1 Year Minor League Deal
December 14, 2010The Yankees have signed Mark Prior to a 1 year incentive laden deal. If he makes the Major League roster he will make $750,000 with a chance to earn up to $1,500.000. I don’t think this is exactly the consolation prize the Yankees were looking for after losing out on Cliff Lee.
Prior looked to be the type of pitcher that would earn a Cliff Lee type deal someday. But now he is relegated to taking any offer he can get as he makes another attempt to salvage any semblance of a Major League Career.
Prior last pitched in the Major’s for the Cubs in 2006.
Russell Martin to Sign with the Yankees
December 14, 2010| As reported yesterday multiple sources are reporting Russell Martin is set to sign with the Yankees. If Martin signs the Yankees catching situation will be interesting in 2011 with Jorge Posada being slated for full time DH and Jesus Montero waiting in the wings. |
Phillies Win Cliff Lee Sweepstakes
December 13, 2010There have been lots of erroneous Tweets about Cliff Lee tonight. But multiple sources are reporting the Rangers have been told Lee is going to sign with the Phillies. Deal with the Phillies is reported to be 5 years 100 million. It seems unbelievable Lee would leave 50 million on the table. The Lee signing would seem to make the Phillies prohibitive favorites in the National League next season.
